As a former award-wining photojournalist, Cara has over 16 years experience as a professional photographer, and loves to share her knowledge and experience with our learners at The Little Paper Shop to help see their photography grow and develop as a result. Now working principally as a wedding and corporate photographer, Cara has shot pretty much every style of photography there is – from capturing gig and theatre productions live (make sure to ask her about some celebrity insider stories!), through to sport and food photography.

Truth time: I still remember how daunting it was when I was handed my Nikon digital SLR kit for my very first press job, and how it was my knowledge of Photoshop from design college alone that saved those early published photos! Although I was formally trained at college, no-one had prepared me for the practical side of photography in the professional world, and remember feeling so frustrated that my lack of technical know-how stopped me from achieving the images I had in mind.
I therefore wanted to create this introductory course to give enthusiast photographers the basic tools they need to move away from automatic modes – and open up a world of creativity to them”

Held at our purpose-build workshop space in the beautiful Cheshire market town of Nantwich, this introductory course is aimed at complete beginners through to enthusiast novices, and will teach you:
- The basics of exposure, and manipulating light and your camera’s manual settings to create epic images!
- Depth of field, focus and how your choice of lens impacts the final photo
- Image composition, the ‘Rule of Thirds’ and Cara’s Top-5 go-to shots that will create stand-out images each and every time
- An overview to off-camera flash
- A brief introduction to post-production workflow and Lightroom editing
The cost of the course includes worksheets, a takeaway pack with gift and a copy of the popular “Read This If You Want To Take Great Photographs” book, plus refreshments throughout. You will need a working digital SLR camera to attend and benefit from this session – just ask us if you’re not sure on the suitability of your kit and we’ll do our best to advise!
